    What Y'shtola, Night's Blessed does

Y'shtola, Night's Blessed turns noncreature spells with mana value 3 or greater into table-wide damage and rewards turns when a player loses at least 4 life with a card.

Her two triggered abilities give you a reason to play a patient, spell-heavy game. Each qualifying cast deals 2 damage to every opponent and gains you 2 life. Two of those triggers in one turn can set up her end-step draw without needing combat damage. The draw ability checks every player's end step, so you're interested in what happens across the whole turn cycle, not just on your turn.

The appeal is that answering threats and finding more cards can also advance your damage plan. Fact or Fiction helps replenish your hand, Void Rend handles a nonland permanent, and delve spells let your graveyard contribute toward casting costs. You still need mana and protection, but you don't have to choose between playing interactively and making progress toward ending the game.

    How Y'shtola, Night's Blessed plays

Early on, develop your mana and keep enough interaction to avoid falling behind. Orzhov Signet helps produce your colors, while Brainstorm can reshape your hand. Don't spend removal just because you have it; save it for threats that matter.

In the midgame, land Y'shtola when you can reasonably keep her around. Sequence qualifying noncreature spells to reach 4 life lost by one player before an end step. Watch opponents' turns too: their actions can satisfy her draw condition without another spell from you.

You win by repeatedly converting spells into damage to every opponent. Keep drawing, answer the threats that would race you, and preserve enough resources to continue casting spells through later turns.

    Sample decks

    Budget build (~$44)

For the budget build, start with a patient Y'shtola plan rather than trying to race. Brainstorm shapes your immediate options; Dig Through Time and Treasure Cruise provide later refills. Preserve Void Rend and Generous Gift for problems your creature-only exile spells can't handle. Mangara, the Diplomat gives opponents another reason to think about their attacks and spell sequencing. Sevinne's Reclamation can recover an eligible permanent after a trade. Once Y'shtola is established, use qualifying casts to chip away at every opponent, and watch each turn's life losses so you don't spend extra cards chasing a draw you've already secured.

    Upgraded build (~$488)

For the upgraded build, use the interaction shared with the budget list alongside Flusterstorm, whose storm copies become more numerous after other spells have been cast that turn. Loran of the Third Path handles an artifact or enchantment on entry; choose carefully who receives the extra card from her tap ability. Mangara, the Diplomat supplies another draw source, while Dig Through Time helps select your next two cards. Keep Y'shtola's qualifying casts purposeful: answer a real threat or improve your resources rather than casting only for damage. Repeated triggers provide a finishing route while your answers keep opponents from closing first.

    Y'shtola, Night's Blessed FAQ

    Frequently Asked Questions

Not by itself. A single player must have lost at least 4 life that turn; you don't add different players' life loss together. Two resolved Y'shtola damage triggers in the same turn normally meet that threshold.
She checks at the beginning of every end step, including opponents' end steps. Her ability draws one card if the condition is met, regardless of how many players lost 4 life or how much extra life they lost.
No. The ability asks whether a player lost at least 4 life during the turn, not whether their life total ended 4 lower. Later life gain doesn't erase that loss.
No. Delve changes how you pay for the spell, not its mana value. Exiling graveyard cards to help cast Dig Through Time or Treasure Cruise doesn't reduce their mana value for her trigger.
Not unless you actually cast them. The copies made by Flusterstorm's storm ability or Sevinne's Reclamation aren't casts, so those copies don't trigger her damage ability.
